Zoom: Embedded Video Calls within Healthie
Healthie's Embedded Zoom Experience brings Zoom's familiar video meeting interface directly into the Healthie platform, allowing providers to conduct telehealth visits without leaving their EHR. This update eliminates the workflow disruption of switching between applications, helping clinicians stay focused on clinical care while charting tools right at hand.

Set Your Video Call Preferences
Organization admins can customize video call preferences at the org level to ensure a consistent video call experience across providers. By adjusting your Appointment Settings, you can set Embedded Zoom as your default video method.
- Navigate to your Appointment Settings.
- Locate the Video Call Settings section > Edit
- Under Default all video call appointments to, select Zoom.
- A new option will appear asking how you want to Open Zoom calls in.
- Select Healthie (browser) to enable the embedded Zoom experience.
- Save your changes.
Note: Mobile calls still require the Zoom app.

Note: If you prefer the standard Zoom application, you can always switch this setting back to open in the Zoom app.
Accessing Embedded Zoom for Sessions
Whether you are hosting a one-on-one consultation or leading a group session, the embedded Zoom experience adapts to your workflow needs.
When it is time for your session, simply click to join the Zoom meeting from the appointment details. Because you selected the browser preference, the call will launch directly inside your Healthie window.
- For Providers: The embedded video call will appear on the screen alongside the Charting Edit View, allowing you to chart effortlessly while maintaining eye contact with your client.
- For Clients: Your clients will see the video call alongside a Chat section to communicate with you securely during the session.

Note on Video Layout: To ensure a smooth browser experience, the embedded Zoom viewer automatically focuses on the active speaker. If you need features like virtual backgrounds or large gallery views, we recommend using the standard Zoom app.
FAQs
Can I switch between the browser and the native Zoom app mid-call?
No, the setting to open Zoom calls in the browser (embedded view) or the native Zoom app is an organization-wide preference, not a per-call choice. There is no user-facing toggle to switch between the browser-embedded view and the native Zoom app.
However, there are two exceptions:
- Fallback on failure: If a connection error occurs while trying to join the browser-embedded view, you will be prompted with an option to open the native Zoom app.
- Mobile users: Users joining from a mobile device are required to use the native Zoom app, regardless of the organization-wide setting.
Can I adjust the Embedded Zoom setting on a per-appointment basis?
No, the setting to open Zoom calls in the browser (Embedded Zoom) or the native app is an organizational/provider-level preference that cannot be adjusted on a per-appointment basis.
What happens if the browser connection to Embedded Zoom fails?
In the event of an SDK connection failure when joining through the browser, Healthie will display an error screen with an automatic fallback option to launch the meeting directly in the native Zoom app.
