It leverages the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to seamlessly connect popular AI tools like OpenAI, Claude, and Cursor with Healthie’s infrastructure. This gives you real-time access to explore the API and build smarter and faster.

With no API key required and an easy, self-serve setup in Healthie's sandbox environment, you can:

In other words, this solution is for developers looking to simplify and streamline their code-writing process, and is not a no-code solution for our API product.

Do you have to be a developer to use Healthie Dev Assist?

While this is a tool targeted at developers, users with some technical knowledge may find it helpful as well.  You will need to know how to use command line tools such as `git` and `npm` to set up Healthie Dev Assist


What type of prompts can I give Healthie Dev Assist?

Healthie Dev Assist can be used to both answer questions (“How do I create a new conversation with the Healthie API” or “How many active patients do I have in my Healthie staging  account”) as well as take actions (“Create a GraphQL query to fetch patient information" or “Correct spelling errors in my package descriptions”)


Can I use Healthie Dev Assist in a production environment?

This tool is intended for use with Healthie's sandbox environment only. While it can be modified to interface directly with production environments, we strongly advise against this unless you are certain your AI tools are authorized to process Protected Health Information (PHI). Most popular AI tools do not come with Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) by default, which are required for handling PHI in production healthcare environments.


Do I need a Healthie API key to leverage Healthie Dev Assist?

No. You can use Healthie Dev Assist without a Healthie API key. All you need to get started is access to a Healthie sandbox account. You can find information on how to sign up for a sandbox account here.


Is there a fee for Healthie Dev Assist?

Healthie Dev Assist is available free of charge. There may be separate fees, unrelated to Healthie, associated with the AI tools (e.g. OpenAI or Claude) you connect to Healthie Dev Assist.


How do I connect Healthie Dev Assist to the MCP-compatible AI tool of my choice?

What can I expect in future updates?

Healthie will continue to update Dev Assist to improve initial prompt context, token usage, and tool usage. 


Can I write API queries to Healthie's production environment using Healthie Dev Assist if I don't have access to Healthie's API?

No. To write API queries to Healthie’s production environment, organizations will need to purchase Healthie’s API product. Upgrade your plan.


What is an MCP?

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that allows AI assistants to connect directly to live data sources and development environments.


Is PHI protected in Healthie Dev Assist?

Protected health information (PHI) (eg. actual patient data) is not allowed, in any form, in the sandbox (staging) environment. Healthie Dev Assist does not have access to our codebase or any of the PHI in your production environment.


Does Healthie maintain business user (BAA) and/or data agreements with the LLMs for users of Healthie Dev Assist?

No. It is up to you to to establish a data agreement/BAA with the LLM of your choosing before you connect the LLM to Healthie Dev Assist.
