Print an Insurance Claim on Red-Ink CMS Form
There may be instances where you need to physically print and mail a copy of a CMS 1500 to an insurer. Healthie supports claims being exported and printer, which you can then do on an approved CMS 1500 "Red Ink" form.
In some cases. Medicare or Medicaid in your state may require that your first claim be printed and submitted by mail, before you can be set up with your state's electronic payer portal for Medicare. Claims created in Healthie can be downloaded and printed, and match up with standard CMS claim form.
Medicare however does not accept photo copies of a form, or printed version of a form on regular paper. The form must be printed on a standard CMS 1500 pink claim form. This paper form is available from various retailers, such as Amazon, Staples, and Office Depot.
Export & Print a Claim
- Export your claim as a TXT file in Healthie, which will download it to your local device
- Open the TXT file (expect it to look a bit odd, that's ok!)
- Use the Print shortcut (ie. CTRL + P) to print the claim
- Ensure that you've added your red-ink form paper to your printer paper tray
- Print your claim form
When printing, you should be able to preview the form prior to printing. Make any adjustments in your printer settings as needed.
Best Practices for Printing Claim Forms
- Printing a PDF version of a Healthie claim will include the form lines and will create an overlay on the red-ink form. Please use the TXT version of the file for printing.
- Disable double sided printing within your printer settings.
- Print the form in Black & White (versus color)
