AI Encounter Summaries (in beta)
AI Encounter Summaries automatically generates a concise, structured clinical summary the moment you lock a charting note, saving you the time of re-reading a full note to extract key findings, decisions made, and next steps. No extra setup, no additional recording time, no Scribe minutes consumed.
If you are already using Healthie AI Charting, no additional setup will be required. Encounter Summaries draw from the transcript already captured during your session. No extra recording time or Scribe minutes are consumed.
AI Encounter Summaries is currently available to a limited group of beta customers.

How it Works
When you convert your AI-generated charting note and lock it for the first time, the Encounter Summary generates automatically based on the session transcript.
- If you have not done so already, request AI Charting to be enabled for your account.
- Enable the member permission "Can autogenerate encounter summaries" for every team member you wish to leverage this tool (there is not additional charge)
- Follow the typical session flow that creates an AI-generated charting note.
- Convert the charting note, edit the note if needed, and lock the note to finalize.
- Your Encounter Summary generates automatically and appears at the top of the locked note.
This feature is still in beta and subject to iterative changes.
Where to find it
Open any locked note. The Encounter Summary appears in a labeled section near the top of the note view, clearly marked "Generated by AI." If it is not immediately visible, click the section header to expand it. Your collapsed or expanded preference is saved per provider.
The summary can be collapsed or expanded as needed.

What the Summary Includes
Each summary contains 3 to 6 structured clinical bullets, written as concise fragments separated by semicolons. Categories always appear in the following order. Any category not covered by the session transcript is skipped automatically.
- Reason for Visit or Progress
- History: Relevant background informing the current encounter
- Symptom Review: Patient-reported symptoms discussed during the visit
- Key Findings: Clinical observations, labs, and notable findings
- Current Treatment: Active medications and ongoing interventions
- Plan: Clinical decisions, next steps, and follow-up interval
The first bullet adapts by visit type:
- Initial visits are labeled "Reason for Visit" and capture the chief complaint, referral source, symptom duration and severity, and who was present.
- Follow-up visits are labeled "Progress" and lead with the most clinically significant change since the last appointment including symptom trajectory, treatment response, adherence, or new concerns.

Editing the AI Encounter Summary
Click directly into the summary text to edit it inline. Any edits are attributed with your name, date, and time in a footer line below the summary. The "Generated by AI" label remains visible regardless of edits.
Please review all AI-generated content carefully before relying on it clinically.

What to Expect
- Summaries are generated only for sessions recorded with AI Scribe. A transcript is required.
- You must convert the AI-generated charting note and lock it to trigger the summary.
- The summary reflects the session transcript. It does not update if the note is edited after locking.
- Sessions with very short or limited clinical content may not generate a summary.
- Notes created before your beta start date will not have summaries.
- The summary will not update if you manually edit the note after locking.
