Nutrient Tracking: Create a Custom Food

Nutrient Tracking is an optional food journaling setting that can be enabled for a client's account. Allow you clients to log individual foods or a meal into the app in order to track important nutrient data, such as calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients.

Healthie integrates with the Edamam Food database to include over 900,000 food options and corresponding nutritional data.

If a client cannot find a food item in the database they can add their own Custom Food. This can also be particularly helpful if a client has created a food/recipe, and wants to input the total nutritional data as a single food item.

Create a New Custom Food Entry

To add a custom food, clients should  start a new food journal entry > Add Food.

By default, they will see Search which gives them access to the food database. There is another tab next to search called My Custom Food > New Custom Food.

Add Custom Food Details

Clients can give their Custom Food a name, and complete as much of the nutrition details as they are able to, including:

  • Serving Size
  • Units
  • Calories
  • Carbohydrate (total carb, fiber, total sugars, added sugars)
  • Lipids (total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, polysaturated fat, monosaturated fat, cholesterol)
  • Protein (total protein)
  • Vitamins (A, C, D)
  • Minerals (Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Sodium)

Clients must click ADD at the top right to save their new food item. Moving forward, they will be able to select this food when logging an entry.

Log a Custom Food

Once saved, clients will be able to select their custom food and add it to their food entry.

To add a custom food, clients should  start a new food journal entry > Add Food >  My Custom Food

Quick Add a Food to an Entry

Clients can quick tap the (+) next to their food to add a single serving, or add more servings to their entry. The custom food item is automatically added to their journal entry > Tap Done on the top right to add the custom food to the journal entry.

Adjust Custom Food Serving Size & Add to Entry

Tapping on the custom food name will display more nutritional details, and clients can adjust the serving size in more detail (including changing to a fraction, ie. 0.5 servings) > Tap  Add on the top right to add the custom food to the journal entry.

Edit a Custom Food

To add a custom food, clients should start a new food journal entry > Add Food >  My Custom Food > Tap on the custom food name

The nutritional details will appear for the food, and clients can click the actions tab (three dots) on the top right.

The option to Edit or Delete the custom food will appear.

When done editing, clients can click Update at the top right to save.
