Supporting a PC-MSO Model in Healthie

PC-MSO support in Healthie lets you work with a prescribing provider inside your existing account instead of running two separate accounts. Intake forms and charting notes stay in one place, and each entity bills under its own NPI and TIN. This guide is for practices that separate nutrition or administrative services from medical or prescribing services under a PC-MSO (Professional Corporation / Management Services Organization) structure.

Lab ordering options and the API add-on depend on your plan, as noted in each section.

Adding the Provider to Your Account

Add your prescribing provider to your account so they can work from the charts of the clients you share.

  1. Add the provider as a standard provider in your account.
  2. Open a client you share collaboratively and add the provider to the client's Care Team.
  3. Optionally, the provider can be given permission to have their own branding within the account as well.

Repeat for each client you share. Care Team members can see those clients' charts, intake forms, and notes, so nothing is exported or transferred between accounts.

As an account owner or admin, you can set detailed permissions for each user so access matches your collaborative or management agreement. You can also audit all providers in the account at any time.

Billing Provider Setup

Within Healthie, create a separate billing provider for the prescribing entity so claims carry only that entity's details. Billing provider selection is made per service. Make sure your front desk and billing staff know which billing provider and rendering provider to choose for each type of visit.

We recommend using Healthie's direct integration with ClaimMD for the most seamless and controlled billing flows when using a PC-MSO model.

ClaimMD: Healthie can confirm the new billing provider was added as a separate billing provider in your existing ClaimMD account. Claims carry only the details of the billing entity you select, with no information from the other entity. New billing providers carry over from Healthie to ClaimMD automatically. If one does not appear, Healthie can add it manually. Reach out to hello@gethealthie.com for confirmation.

E-Prescribing and EPCS Setup

E-Rx is available through DoseSpot as an add-on to your Healthie plan. To prescribe under the correct entity, Healthie configures your prescribing account with that entity's details.

  1. Contact Healthie when you are ready to begin and ask them to configure your prescribing account with the correct entity details.
  2. Provide the entity details Healthie requests for the E-Rx application, such as the clinic name, address, phone and fax number, and the prescriber's individual NPI. DoseSpot reviews the application, which typically takes 7 to 14 business days.
  3. Healthie lets you know when E-Rx is enabled. If the prescriber needs to prescribe controlled substances, Healthie also enables EPCS permissions.

Note: Do not populate the Company Long Name field. DoseSpot confirmed this field displays on the prescription.

Keeping Client-Owed Billing Separate

Patient payments collected through Healthie route to your account's payout destination. Use one of the options below to keep client-owed amounts for the prescribing entity separate from the other entity's.

Bill or Invoice Externally

Invoice client-owed balances for the prescribing entity outside of Healthie, for example through QuickBooks. Payments then flow directly to that entity's own bank account.

Keep Healthie Records Clean

If you invoice externally, you can still keep client records accurate in Healthie.

  • Third-party connection tool: A tool like Keragon can connect Healthie and QuickBooks so payment records stay in sync. See the Keragon + Healthie + QuickBooks integration.
  • API: The Healthie API can write payment activity back to the client's record. This requires the API add-on.
  • Create an invoice in Healthie tied to the CMS 1500 claim (invoices do not automatically send to clients) When a client pays through an external invoice, record the payment in Healthie as an Outside Payment. This balances out the client-owed amount in Healthie, so the client's account reflects what was collected even though the funds did not pass through Healthie's payment processing. Essentially, you'll balance your books.

Lab Ordering

Healthie supports three ways to order labs and receive results in the client's chart, so your prescriber and nutrition providers work from the same lab history.

If you already have an account with Quest, LabCorp, or Bioreference, you can link it to Healthie with E-Labs Direct. You or your support staff place orders from the Client Profile or from charting workflows, and results return to the client's chart. Clients receive email and SMS prompts that guide them through fulfillment.

Add Lab Orders to Client Packages

If you do not have a direct lab account, add specific Quest, LabCorp, or Bioreference lab orders or panels to a Client Package. Clients purchase the package, complete the order at a lab draw site, and results return to Healthie for you and your client. This is for cash-pay lab orders.

Not available to clients in AZ, NY, NJ, and RI due to state regulations.

Order Self-Pay Labs With Fullscript

Fullscript Labs syncs results into the client's chart and supports self-pay orders.

  1. Enable the permissions Can view labs, Can order labs, and Should see option to use Fullscript within Healthie for each provider who orders, then click Save.
  2. From the Labs tab, Client Profile Overview, or Quick Profile, click +Order labs.
  3. Sign in or sign up for Fullscript in the new tab. Then go to Labs > Catalog > Register for labs and follow the prompts.
  4. In Fullscript, go to Labs > Catalog, find the labs for your client, and click Add to plan for each.
  5. Click Review Plan, add an optional message, then click Send to patient so your client pays, or check I'll pay for the patient's order to pay yourself.

Fullscript Labs are available to adult clients (18+) in the US, except NY, NJ, RI, and HI.
